On this memorial of St Barnabus (St Paul's assisting-apostle) we remember a man of many gifts of the Holy Spirit who used them freely in the proclamation of the Kingdom throughout the Mediterranean. Born in Cyprus he was and early convert. He assisted Paul in his first mission. He went on with John Mark to Cyprus to proclaim the gospel there. He probably was martyred their around the year AD61. May St Barnabus pray for us and like him may we use the gifts of the Holy Spirit that have been given to us.
Today's gospel continues from yesterday's. So we continue with our Lord's teaching about what it is to be under the reign of God. He gives His first example of how the Law of Moses points us to go even further, in fact, deeper into our hearts.
