Advent Carol Service

Advent Carol Service

7.30 pm
Christ the King
Plymouth PL1 2EN

The Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham

with Buckfast Abbey Choir

The choir will be singing a range of sacred music for Advent including:
I look from afar...Willcocks/Palestrina ;
The truth from above  by R Vaughan Williams ;
Adam lay ybounden ;
Jesus Christ the Apple Tree  by E Poston
& Hosanna to the Son of David  by Gibbons

The congregation will be singing  O Come O Come Immanuel ;
On Jordans bank  by Charles Coffiin ;
Lo! He comes with clouds descending  by Charles Wesley ;
Hail Queen of Heaven, the ocean star ;
Come thou long expected Jesus.

The liturgy begins in darkness and as the clergy process from the West they bring light to the congregation, holding candles, and sing, O Come O Come Emmanuel.

Five lessons are readings from the prophets whose words instill hope in God's people.  The next lesson is the Philippian hymn reminding us of the self-emptying of God in the Incarnation.  And finally we hear the gospel of the Annunciation of our Lord to Mary.

Please come and support our service - a beautiful and meditative start to Advent.
